Terms of Use
Effective 25 September 2026
Short version: BELT is a passenger's forecast of how bumpy a flight will feel. It is not a flight instrument, it is not always right, and nothing in it should ever be used to operate an aircraft.
By downloading or using BELT you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. BELT is published by Goliard Labs LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("we", "us").
BELT is not an aviation safety product
BELT is made for passengers sitting in the cabin. It is not certified avionics, not an electronic flight bag, not a dispatch tool and not a weather radar. Do not use it for flight planning, dispatch, weather avoidance, navigation or any other flight operation. Pilots, dispatchers and crew must use their own approved sources.
Your crew's instructions always come first. If the seat-belt sign is on, it does not matter what BELT says.
Forecasts are estimates
Everything BELT shows about the future — turbulence, timings, cloud tops, the Coffee Spill Index, the arrival estimate — is a model output built from public weather and flight data. Models are wrong sometimes. Smooth air can turn rough with no warning, and a flight BELT calls rough can be perfectly calm. Treat every number as an estimate, never as a fact.
Live positions, gates, delays and aircraft types come from third-party feeds that are themselves incomplete or delayed. The "simulated weather" display in the 3D view is painted from the cloud and ride model BELT already has — it is not a real weather radar return, and it is labelled as such in the app.
Crowd ride reports
If you share bump reports, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use the anonymous measurements to build and improve the crowd ride layer and the turbulence model, including showing them to other BELT users as anonymous reports. You can stop sharing, and delete what you have sent, at any time — see the Privacy Policy. Reports from other users are shown as they were measured; we do not verify them.
Availability is not guaranteed
BELT depends on other people's servers, on airline Wi-Fi and on your phone's GPS. Any of them can be unavailable, rate-limited, wrong or switched off, sometimes exactly when you want them. We may change, suspend or retire features, data sources or the whole service at any time, and we do not promise any level of uptime, accuracy or continuity.
Links and bookings go to other companies
Where BELT offers to rebook you, find a hotel, a lounge or a ride, it hands you off to a third party. We are not that company's agent, we do not take part in your transaction, and we are not responsible for their prices, terms, cancellations or service. Their terms and privacy policies apply once you leave BELT.
BELT Plus subscription
BELT may offer an optional paid subscription, BELT Plus, that unlocks additional features. These terms apply whenever it is on sale; if BELT Plus is not currently offered, or is offered to you as a free preview, nothing in this section costs you anything and no purchase is made.
- Prices and periods are shown in the app, on the purchase screen, before you confirm. They vary by country and can change; a price change only applies to a renewal after you have been notified, as Apple requires.
- Purchases are made through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation, and Apple's terms govern the transaction.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is switched off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before that period ends.
- Cancel any time in iOS Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the features until the period you already paid for runs out. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Free trials, where offered, convert to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited if you buy a subscription during it.
- Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Restoring a previous purchase on a new device is done from within the app with the same Apple Account.
Acceptable use
Do not scrape, resell or redistribute BELT's data feeds, reverse-engineer the app except where law says you may, abuse the backend, submit falsified ride reports, or use BELT to build a competing dataset. We may cut off an install that does.
Third-party data and licences
BELT builds on public and licensed data from adsb.lol and OpenStreetMap (both ODbL), NASA GIBS/EOSDIS, NOAA and aviationweather.gov, Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0), FlightAware AeroAPI, AeroDataBox, Cesium ion, Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles and Apple Maps, and uses Flightradar24's open 3D aircraft models under the GNU GPL v2.0. Those providers' licences and terms apply to their data. The full list, with links, is in the Privacy Policy.
Our content
BELT, its name, its interface, its artwork and its own models belong to us. You get a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you control. Everything else is reserved.
No warranty
BELT is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any forecast will prove correct.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost trips, missed connections, lost bookings or lost data, arising from your use of BELT. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for BELT in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50 (about €45). Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only so far as permitted.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the effective date above changes with them, and material changes are called out in the app's release notes. Continuing to use BELT after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in Travis County, Texas have exclusive jurisdiction. Nothing here limits consumer rights that cannot be waived where you live.
